Top Ten Things to Know about Shiocton Library #3

Number 3: Anyone can sign up for a library card.

If you have an address showing residency anywhere in the state, you can have a library card!     As long as you live, work, visit, vacation, or drive through Shiocton, you can sign up to use your library card with us. Our library is a part of a system that spans Outagamie and Waupaca counties.  This means a card from us be used in any library located in both counties.  In addition, we have access to books and other materials that we can request from 49 libraries in an expanded neighboring area.

Adults over 18, who commit to being responsible for all items checked out on their card, can have a library account.  A responsible parent, who agrees to assume responsibility for items on the card, can sign up his/her children under 18.  Children as young as babies can have a card. You may ask, “Why would a baby need a library card?”  It is very important for the littlest ones to listen to books being read out loud because it exposes them to sounds in language and fosters understanding and uses of speech.  Reading together allows families to spend quality time forming life long bonds.  It allows adults to keep their materials separate from their children’s.  Reading with children of all ages is one of the most important things we can do to help them be ready for school.  We have many books and encourage you to read your old favorites to children in your life, and to stop in to get a library card for finding new favorite books!
